New single Nov 22, 2024
"Santa Ate A Gummy" is a catchy holiday song co-written by Ben Winship & Grammy-winning bluegrasser Tim O’Brien. In this swinging, acoustic tale, Santa Claus accidentally eats a "special" gummy on Christmas Eve, leading to unexpected detours, mischief and delightful chaos. With witty lyrics and a playful melody, the song is bound to be a holiday hit that gets everyone laughing and singing along. Perfect for anyone looking to add a little extra spice to their holiday playlist.

B-log FALL, 2024
As I write, I am reflecting on an amazing fall while outside Mother Nature is threatening the first snow of the season. In September we took an extended trip to Vermont, Ireland and the Netherlands. Vermont was family visiting; Ireland was a wooden bowl turning workshop that I attended with son, Sam; and Holland was a rendezvous with son, Owen, who resides in Switzerland. Touched down for a few days at home, then turned around and went camping in Yellowstone for a week – wolves, bears, amazing hikes and fall colors.
Speaking of snow, I wrote a Christmas song with Tim O'Brien recently. It will be out in the world shortly I hope. Yesterday, Tom Murphy (local mandolin pickin buddy) and I recorded a little video for David Benedict's Mandolin Mondays series.
Elsewise the world of Winship, my winter is looking like a handful of local gigs (playing bass in a reggae band!) and a lot of time in the studio. Looking forward to having my friends Big Chimney from Alaska here to record in Nov. Also, composing a fair amount of soundtrack music in a range of genres.
On the side, there will be continued work in my woodshop turning bowls (my new obsession), continuing to play a lot of “social music” with the locals, and skiing 👍
Peace to all (near and far!)
